Museum Plaza Glory Days

While we’re on the topic (and it’s been oh, so long since we have been on the topic), it’s worth taking a look at probably the coolest video-rendering ever made of Louisville.  This video was made by the amazing Brooklyn Digital Foundry for Museum Plaza.  Just watch it.  (Or click here if the above video doesn’t load.)

I found the Museum Plaza renderings, videos, models, and background information fascinating. The minature Meseum on Main St was spectacular and got me thinking about how many other detailed models and videos there are for modern buildings. It would seem that a Meseum of Modern Architecture (MOMARCH) would be both very popular and relatively inexpensive as Museums go. There must be thousands of these presentation on modern buildings (both realized and conceptual) and most of them are probably sitting gathering dust somewhere. Louisvillians in general are resistant to modern architecture but I don’t they would stay away from exhibits on some of the most famous buildings in the world, i.e. the Guggenheim in Bilbao, the towers in Malaysia, or the Seattle Public Library building. Having this kind of mesuem might actually open people’s minds and lead to more people embracing modern architecture. Even if MP never gets built, if LLBrown, SWilson and/or others embraced this concept and built a MOMARCH in downtown Louisville, the legacy of Museum Plaza would be positive.

Brilliant idea, Stu. It’s all about education. I would love something in town that gets people thinking about buildings. We need to address that tension between the new and the old, between conservation and invention.

Looks like the folks who work in the architecture office are in the witness protection program. Or they’re worried about people violating the copyright on their faces. Or they’re deeply ashamed of their involvement in this project. Or the videomaker was trying to add a bizarre note of mystery. Or …
