Thanks to a tipster for sending in this great photo of road work on Buchanan Street looking south from Franklin Street taken in 1983.  Not that much has changed besides the destruction of several shotgun houses (and a few trees) on the west side of the street.  The Blind Pig is just down the street at the intersection with Washington Street.

What I want to know, however, is when did that crazy-wavy mural on the left-hand side disappear?  I want it back.

Hell yeah – from the looks of it, that was a pretty cool mural. Love to have somthing like that back too.

Classic construction photo. If I wasn’t busy being born in 1983, I would’ve been the guy in the white shirt, crossed arms, looking on while the work was being done.

Love the mural. I live at the downtown end of washington and I’d love to have that back in the hood. Any idea whose building that is??

@Larry – It looks like the current owner of the building is a food distributor called RSW Distributors based in Cincinnati, OH. Seems they specialize in Beef, Turkey, and Pork products.
