Then Again: 1328 South Fourth Street
The above engraving shows architect C.J. Clarke’s house for Mrs. Alice Bacon as published in the American Architect & Building News in 1889. Fortunately, the house is looking as good as ever today on Fourth Street just north of Central Park. (via Archiseek.)

This actually is called the ‘Bacon House’, for Alice Tyler Bacon. She was connected to the famous Tyler family who owned much property in the J-town area. It was featured in CJ about a year ago in the Saturday weekend hosue profile. But it was almost demolished for a parking lot in the early 1970s and those crazy preservationists saved it. : – )

Thanks for the added history, Steve. I changed the spelling of the name—the script in the engraving was a bit difficult to read! Thank goodness the house wasn’t torn down, it’s one of Old Louisville’s best.
