It has been about a month now since the top of the Baxter Avenue Morgue building partially collapsed onto the sidewalk and the mess has yet to be cleaned up. Perhaps the decaying building and the pile of bricks adds to the ambiance of the haunted morgue?

The permit to block the sidewalk expires in a matter of days… and a few pallets of brick have been delivered to the site, so it looks like this one is ready to be rebuilt.

  1. What a site, and the sound when that wall fell from the old Baxter Avenue Morgue Building! And it’s still reported that on a full moon night, that old “precarious” brick is seen floating in mid air, down the halls of the morgue. It chased the gardener out the back door one night. Some might think it took to long to fix the wall, just a plot to make the neighbors angry. I think it’s because it took so long to historically match the brick as to not disturb the look of this building, and help keep the historical accuracy of this area. Sure beats vinyl siding! But it’s all fixed now, and no one was hurt, that’s the important thing. Except for that precarious old brick!

  2. It’s great that that ‘precarious’ brick decided to hang around and haunt the Baxter Morgue! What a great story to tell about that ghost brick that lurks around Baxter Avenue on foggy evenings in the crisp fall air. Keep Louisville Weird.
