Late last week at the site of the Burwinkle-Hendershot Building on Main Street near Second Street, we spotted a mechanical contractor looking around the Washington Avenue side of the future mixed-use project. The building looks to be getting a new fire protection system, perhaps in preparation for imminent renovation work ahead?
The project will occupy the the Burwinkle-Hendershot Building as well as the Bearno’s by the Bridge Building and could potentially have retail along both Main Street and Washington Street with apartments above. The location couldn’t be better considering the new downtown arena will be its next-door-neighbor and the proposed Iron Quarter project is just to the east. A planned restaurant by the owners of O’Shea’s in the Highlands neighborhood will also sit to the east. With arena financing in the bank and demolition nearly complete, we are hoping to see crews here more often in the future.
Can't wait 'til all the Whiskey Row projects are complete, but geez, what a mess!
Isn't the Washington Street side the former location of the Great Midwestern Bluegrass Music Hall?
I used to work there in the 70's, what a hoot!
This was my families building. Awesome you are keeping the name! I was part owner! My great grand parents started the mercantile business turn of the centurty. the 20th century. I remember the huge freight elevators and the solid wood timbers.
