Here’s our last installment of photos from last week’s ice storm. This time we’re rounding out the set with icy details and close-ups and the damage sustained by trees. Unfortunately, the storm has revealed the weakness of the beautiful Lacebark Elm trees that line West Main Street: they apparently can’t hold a lot of weight. We estimate the majority of trees on West Main sustained some damage, and quite a few were considerably destroyed.
Broken Sidewalk reader Alan wrote in to share some of his Ice Storm 2009 photos as well, check out the wintry scenes on Flickr here and here and here and here.

Pretty incredible photo series – thanks for posting such awesome pics.
I just wanted to say I really appreciate all the posting lately, esp of the ice storm photos. I’m currently in Pittsburgh, and somehow we faired far better than Louisville. My family in Fern Creek, as far as I know, is still without power.
Brokensidewalk is my only place to get news and keep up-to-date on Louisville development.
Thanks guys!!
Unbelievable – thinking of all our friends in Old Louisville. I hear Central Park is a war zone. We just moved from there March 2008.
