A popular East Market Street dining spot in Louisville is bucking the recession trend and preparing for its second location across the river in New Albany. Toast on Market is currently preparing its new restaurant, conveniently located on Market Street in downtown New Albany, allowing the eatery to keep its original name.
The new location will continue the theme of the original Toast with breakfast offerings all day along with its selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches. The new Toast is planning to serve its first pancakes May 1st this year, and we believe the new shop will go over easy on the Sunny Side.
The new Toast on Market features a mahogany facade with traditional detailing that won it a ‘Certificate of Appropriateness’ from the New Albany Historic Preservation Commission. The adjacent commercial building is also under renovation and will hopefully fill with shops soon. A terribly unattractive brown metal awning was removed for the renovations and a new coat of paint has already been applied. We’re not sure if the neon ‘Fair’ sign above the front door will be repaired, but it would sure be a nice addition to New Albany’s nighttime street life.
Thank goodness a decent eatery is coming to our side of the Ohio! We relish going to Toast on Main Street periodically, but usually have to make it a "day trip" for everyone to get there. Now it will be a simple drive down to downtown! You can rest assured we'll be there from here out! Congratulations!
huh? you act like Louisville is the oher side of the world? you do realize you live in the Indiana SUBURBS of Louisville right? Downtown New Albany is literally 7-9 minutes from Toast on Market in Louisville.
makes downtown new albany a little nicer and a little more walkable/pedestrian-friendly, though, michael. can’t be a bad thing to have a new restaurant in a sidewalk storefront.
i certainly wouldn’t encourage a 7-9 minute drive if a walk might be possible!
Hopefully with the influx of new, interesting restaurants in the downtown area, New Albany will finally find it’s key to revitalzation!
Linda, it certainly looks like New Albany is poised for great things. There’s certainly a great restaurant scene growing in NA’s downtown, a great new greenway and amphitheater along the river, and a couple large scale development projects planned (not to mention that master plan the city is working on). Combine that with a superb historic building stock and I saw New Albany is going to be getting a lot of attention in the future.
