It’s nice to see renovation work at the Olympic Apartments on the corner of Third and Breckinridge streets in SoBro advancing. When work is complete, the historic 1920s-era structure will house 24 apartments with low to moderate rents with a mix of retail on the sidewalk level. Check out the plans for the building on a previous Broken Sidewalk report.
Architect and developer Roberto Bajandas has been working to completely gut the building and hopes to have the first apartments occupied by by the of the year. He also says he is in talks with new tenants for about half of the available retail space but declined to name the interested parties until details are finalized.
Bajandas has already replaced all the windows in the building and continues to work on the interior spaces. When work is complete and many of the original art-nouveau details are restored (like the corner awning currently covered in plywood), the before and after views could look nearly identical.
