A two-story building at 1015 Bardstown Road just south of Highland Avenue is getting a facelift that will yield the permanent home to MozzaPi, a wood-fired, Neapolitan-style pizzeria (which initially opened as a food truck last year), with new apartments above.
Building owner Gary Joy received a $50,000 facade loan from the city last year to renovate the property and restore the storefront with new paint and windows. Four apartments are planned on the second floor. The 10,000 square foot building had previously been listed for sale for $650,000.
MozzaPi co-owners Tom Edwards and Justyne Richardson are hoping to have their permanent location open by early March. For more information on the MozzaPi business and Neapolitan pizza, check out Steve Coomes’ Insider Louisville write-up from last year.
we’re often quick to criticize demolitions and severe modifications, but the notice of this renovation/reuse has no comments yet! we need to give credit to those who ARE investing in existing buildings and re-introducing life behind their storefronts.
congratulations and thank you to all involved in this project! mozzapi is good stuff and it will be great to see this space occupied again.
Really? Another pizza joint on Bardstown Road?
Have you seen their sign with Facebook and Twitter logos? Ugh.
Are we seeing the completed $50,000 renovation of the facade in this photo?
The photo at top is from when the building was for sale a while ago and the other photo is of construction inside the retail space for MozzaPi. If anyone wants to send in a photo of the facade as it looks currently (tips@brokensidewalk.com), I would be happy to include it in this post.
How is the parking at this location? Since pizza is not going in what other suggestions do people have. Restaurant, beauty salon, fitness, retail?
