If you haven’t heard, Louisville is now part of the international Creative Mornings community. And the first meetup is scheduled for this Friday, January 16, 2015. Here’s a bit of background info on the group from the Creative Mornings’ web site:
Creative Mornings in Louisville exists to foster a creative community that values and celebrates the creative life. Our free monthly gatherings welcomes a variety of people with different creative disciplines to gather and celebrate the creative work being done in our community. We believe Louisville is full of creative talent and we want inspire and challenge our creative community towards better things.
The theme of the first talk is “Ugly,” and the first speaker will be 21c museum director and chief curator Alice Gray Stites. The talk will attempt to address “embracing the ‘ugly’ beginnings of making any vision real,” which has distinct applications beyond the art world in the realm of urbanism. One of the ways in which we see cities reinventing themselves, for instance, is through Tactical Urbanism, which employs down-and-dirty techniques on the cheap that can bring about long-term change. Think Park(ing) Day or ReSurfaced on Main Street. “It may not be pretty, but you’ve got to start somewhere,” the CM web site said.
Registration began about 5 minutes ago on the Creative Mornings Louisville website. The event runs from 8:30a.m. to 10:00a.m. at the 21c Museum Hotel, and tickets are limited, so you’d better sign up fast.
