The Inverness Condominiums, Phase II, Rendering by Joseph & Joseph

The first phase of the Inverness Condominiums at the corner of Cherokee Road and Highland Avenue (aka the Home for Women turned Home for Wealthy) is now complete and it’s only a matter of time before construction begins on its 4-floor, new-construction neighbor. No telling how long or short a time that may be, however.

The Giant White Monkeys on Main Street are now completely inflated with signage. Their evil mantra as reported before says, “Everybody Always Thinks They Are Right.”

    More West Main Street Paint

More Wet Paint on West Main

Ever since the Doe-Anderson Building was painted a couple months ago, the race is on to spruce up the old row-buildings along West Main Street. Most recently, the Leadership Louisville Center has decided to cover up their dingy grey paint of year’s past.

After the 21c Museum Hotel’s flirtation with cool modern grey and the Stengel Hill Architecture bright green of years past, the color du jour seems to be shades of beige as seen in both sets of recently painted buildings. Who’s next in the repainting game?

Last Friday, we spotted these tables along the Wharf at the foot of Fourth Street. It seemed really quite pleasant thinking about the riverfront wharf here as more than a parking lot and drop-off zone. Imagine if the river’s edge was a place to stop and sit at a cafe and enjoy the lazy flow of the riverboats passing by.

New Clubs at 4th Street Live

The 4th Street Live! entertainment center in downtown Louisville built by the Cordish Companies is preparing for the launch of two new club concepts following the demise of Fashion Shop clothing store and Felt Club. The new clubs will be one atop the other.

A stand up live comedy club will be on the second floor and Ri Ra, an Irish pub, will be on the 4th Street level. Ri Ra will occupy about 9,000 square feet and will be constructed of materials salvaged from old Irish pubs. The name Ri Ra is derived from the Irish phrase “Ri Ra agus Ruaile Buaile” meaning “celebration and good fun.”

When we went out last week to visit the Bio-Medical Research Building under construction on Hancock Street and Muhammad Ali Blvd., we snapped a few photos of the parking garage being built next-door. Last time we checked in on the mega-garage, the tower crane was in place and the foundation was being poured. Now, much more concrete is in place, columns are reaching for the third level, and a giant ramp is being prepared.

A grand mansion from the turn of the century located at 2115 Cherokee Parkway near the Castleman Monument (the guy on the horse) is undergoing a complete top-to-bottom renovation. Less than a year ago, the property was divided up into seven tiny apartments and wasn’t in the best condition. The property sold, but it was unclear if the new owner would reclaim the house for single family living or turn the massive building into condominiums.

Here we go again… another look at Louisville’s most exciting construction project actually under construction. ZirMed works on its 8th floor slab and pushes columns towards nine.
