Sunergos Coffee expanding to Woodlawn Avenue

The second Sunergos Coffee location is now under construction on Woodlawn Avenue in the Beechmont neighborhood.  We told you last June about plans to open the second location, but now the micro-roastery and espresso bar will soon be a reality.  The new coffee shop is made possible in part by a loan from the Louisville Metropolitan Business Development Corporation.  Co-owners Matthew Huested and Brian Miller hope to have the new shop open in about two months, so by late Spring, the streets around Southern Parkway will be wafting with the smell of freshly roasted coffee beans.

Sunergos takes the place of Potatoe Man’s cards and comics shop and will be quite a bit larger than the first location on Preston Street just north of Eastern Parkway.  The new store will house about 1,000 square feet of seating space, up from 500-600 in the original location and will feature a 1,500 square foot micro-roastery in back visible through a glass wall.  The inside of the future Sunergos is still pretty rough, but a new glass store-front was being installed today.  Once complete, Matthew expects construction to really take off.

Matthew explained that he and Brian were attracted to the Beechmont neighborhood by its great street character and its small town Main Street feel.  They appreciate how the historic neighborhood is still intact and is very walkable.  Matthew sees the area around Woodlawn Avenue as one of Louisville’s up-and-coming neighborhoods where hoome prices are still very affordable and a wide array of food and restaurants are close at hand.  He also is impressed with the diverse international population and the unique character it lends the street.

Southern Parkway is, of course, one of Louisville grandest streets (once named Grand Boulevard, in fact), and the area around Beechmont has been holding its own for a long time.  Area neighbors have been waiting for a coffee shop they can call their own that can form a community gathering spot.

Welcome to the area! As a local business owner I can honestly say that the people around here are second to none. If you provide them with a quality product at a fair price, they will support you 100%. You’ve made a great choice.

Thank you so much for opening a nice needed business in the South End of Louisville. I've lived in the South End for over 40 years and want it to continue to grow and bring young people to the neighborhood. I wish your business much success.
