One of Louisville’s tiniest sushi bars is getting a little bigger. Located at 217 South Fifth Street across the street from Metro Hall, the Bendoya Sushi Bar is expanding into the adjacent retail bay, nearly doubling its size.

This restaurant has become one of my favorite lunch spots in 2009 and the last time I was there in December, openings in the wall had already been finished although nothing was yet in the new space.

While part of what I liked about Bendoya was its small size, it’s good to see a local business doing well.

  1. This is a great little sushi bar and right smack in the middle of town. A lot of people don’t know about it because it’s so small that if you sneeze as you walk past, you miss it. Glad to hear they are doing well enough to expand.

  2. I (heart) this place too. Eating there is like being part of some secret club. It reminds me of the family-owned japanese places that were neighborhood touchstones in California: Mago’s in Culver City, LA and Anzu in Berkeley. Those restaurants were the defining social centers of those cities, for me anyway. I wish I worked downtown in a big office so I could go to Bendoya every week with a different person. Good times!
