Painting an advertisement in New York (BS File Photo)
Painting an advertisement in New York. (Branden Klayko / Broken Sidewalk)

Billboards and advertising have become ubiquitous in today’s environment, but what if advertisements were actually hand painted works of art? Below is an interesting video called Up There documenting the hand-painted advertising industry in New York. It’s pretty interesting to see these things go up and kind of takes the edge off of the fact that they are giant advertisements.

Painted billboards were common in the past and barely visible advertisements on the sides of many historic structures are valued by many. Has anyone seen a modern painted billboard in Louisville? What are your favorite historic painted advertisements?
