Kudos to LG&E for doing the right thing and not razing one of Downtown’s tiniest structures. The utility substation on Armory Place is on it’s third life now, escaping demolition for the parking structure in the 1980s and now thwarting the bulldozers once again after one of its walls shifted during utility work.

In a letter sent to the city from LG&E Senior Corporate Attorney James Dimas:

Louisville Gas and Electric Company hereby withdraws its proposal to demolish an LG&E service structure located at 414 Armory Place.

We are pleased that an alternative to demolition was determined to be viable and safe, and we are likewise pleased that this old structure will continue to house LG&E’s Armory Place facilities.
